It was once a small fishing village that has expanded to well over 2,000km2 with a population somewhere between 7 and 9 million (many residents are not registered). Recognized as a Mecca of commerce, its bustling chaos makes it easily Vietnam’s most exciting city. But it’s also a city with a chequered history and a rich culture. Its pagodas, museums, public buildings, parks, and boulevards make it a magnet for visitors.  Let’s look beyond the modern high-rises and see a more authentic, historic side of Ho Chi Minh City and its suburbs.

DAY 1 SAIGON ORIENTATION

8:30 AM –Pick up from your hotel for a full day of orientating of Ho Chi Minh City. A short drive takes you to Cho Lon – the city’s most colorful district which still retains its connection to the past. We start with a visit to the impressive Thien Hau pagoda and from there roam around its buzzing street life, you’ll pass a mix of architecture – from temples to shophouses to modernist classics. 
Our next visit will be to a historical site due to its significance referring to wartime, it’s a Secret Weapon Cellar in a local house in District 3. Nearly three tonnes of weapons were kept by Saigon Commandos to attack the Presidential Palace during the Tet Offensive in 1968.
In the afternoon, you’ll spend time at the  Reunification Palace, and then from there stroll to the major sights of colonial Ho Chi Minh City: the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon, the Central Post Office, and the Opera House. Walk to the Ho Con Rua area for a cup of Saigon coffee, and enjoy the unique way of drinking mobile coffee by Saigon people. You may be crashed in some of the interesting talks with Saigon students who often gather here before or after their lectures. The trip ends at your hotel before 5:00 PM (to avoid rush hour).
